Introducing the Satire Section on Africa Cradle
Grace Mugabe expressed shock after his husband, the Head of State and Government of Zimbabwe, and Commander-in-Chief of the Defense Forces, His Excellency President Robert Gabriel Mugabe reached for a kiss at the Independence celebrations in Harare. This was after she had admonished him against such public display of affection, but the nonagenarian went for the kiss nonetheless, in full glare of the cameras. Grace Mugabe said that her husband should desist from such western manners which were totally in violation of the Shona and Ndebele traditions. “In our culture, we don’t kiss in public,” she said. “I however understand that my husband is a product of British colonial rule and old habits die-hard.” However, a source close to the first lady’s inner thoughts said that Grace did not enjoy kissing his old man, because he cannot go all the way if she chooses to take him seriously. “Our first lady is not the type to say a glass is half full, or half empty. The glass has to be full! She is a passionate woman who goes all the way, as proven by her recent attainment of a post-graduate degree whilst still managing the rigors of being the first lady of Zimbabwe. She has always said that she wants her private life where it belongs, in private!” We are unsure though if His Excellency will desist from kissing the first lady in public considering how much he is in love with her.
